Angelina Modeling and Dance School (Angelina) is a registered private institute founded in Shenzhen in April 1998 by Ms. Maggie Chen. Recognized as the best modeling and dance school for children in China, Angelina enjoys substantial popularity and has earned an excellent reputation.
There was no child modeling or “modeling dance” school in China until Angelina was established: Maggie Chen is a pioneer. She created the “modeling dance” training model, which is now used throughout the country. Maggie choreographs all the dance and modeling routines for Angelina’s students, using a range of traditional and modern styles and the influence of both Western and ethnic Chinese cultures. Students from Angelina dominate the awards tables in youth and children’s arts competitions across China, and routinely win all of the modeling dance honors.
Angelina’s curriculum is comprehensive and covers basic dance skills, catwalk performances, deportment and elocution, as well as drama and stage performance skills.
Maggie conceptualized, and insists upon, an open training model where parents or accompanying adults are able to watch classes. This approach benefits the teachers, who cannot be halfhearted in their teaching; the students, who become unafraid of public performance; and the parents, who can see first-hand what training their children are receiving and can supervise the teachers and their children directly.
Angelina provides students with plenty of practical opportunities to perform, by arranging or encouraging them to attend competitions as well as governmental and commercial events. Maggie believes that practice makes perfect and results in less timidity or stage-fright.
To date, Angelina has been invited to perform in Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Hunan, Shanxi, Guangxi, Shandong and Shenzhen. Students have also been invited to appear on CCTV (China’s central television network), Southern Media Group (SMG), the Television South network (TVS), and the provincial television networks of Shenzhen, Guangdong, Hunan, Shanxi and Shandong, among others. They have also been cast in television dramas, films and advertisements; have represented China at the Brothers Grimm Fairy Tales Contest in Berlin; and have performed the official theme song of Shenzhen and Guangdong to commemorate the 2008 Sichuan earthquake disaster.
